Hammer Intervew

Which bands have influenced your sound the most?

Since each of us comes from a different musical corner, our influences are just like our music – widely diverse. It goes from Depeche Mode to Devin Townsend, all the way to Pantera, yet we don’t sound like any of these bands. It’s more of a mix of all of them. We grew up with bands like W.A.S.P., Metallica, Cinderella, Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy, and so on, so all classic stuff. As you get older you become more open and allow yourself more that isn’t solely pure metal.

What was the worst experience you’ve had so far?

Oh, we can still remember that really well: at one of our first gigs in Switzerland our drummer was heavily experimenting with some psychedelic stuff before the show. When we got on stage he was playing songs that we’d never heard before. It was some hip improvisation. Despite the fiasco we were still able to sell a few CDs. Since then we’re more careful about what we do before a concert.

And the best?

The best experience is still to come: we’re going on tour with Oomph! and of course it’ll be a little dream come true, because we’re going across the republic and playing ten concerts in really big venues. We’re really looking forward to this experience and of course we hope to reach as many people as possible with our music.

Describe the music to someone who’s never heard you before.

Even for us that’s not so easy – the songs are just too different to choose a fixed term. The common thread is definitely the melancholy and the range we have in our songs. You could describe it as “spherical modern metal,” that grips and than releases. Otherwise, we’re really song-oriented. We put less value on the genre stereotypes and focus primarily on the song. Recently we’ve been often compared to Stabbing Westward. I don’t know if the comparison is accurate, I don’t know anything about the band at all, but soon I’ll definitely look into something from them.
